Tehran (ISNA) – Iran’s government spokesman, Ali Rabiei hoped the president and his accompanied delegation during their visit to New York for the UN General Assembly would be able to show Iran’s rightfulness and peace-seeking face to the world.

“The visit can provide an appropriate environment for discussion with other countries’ leaders and we hope president Rouhani and his accompanied delegation during their visit to New York for the UN General Assembly would be able to show Iran’s rightfulness and peace-seeking face to the world,” Rabiei said on Monday in a news conference.

“Under the US sanctions our regional ties with our neighbors have improved and this is a good chance for Iran,” he noted.

“Iran’s relations with Turkey and Russia are in the best historical period. Iran’s main strategy in foreign policy is to expand its relations with neighboring countries. This strategy is being pursued more closely in the condition of sanctions,” Rabiei added, referring to President Rouhani’s trip to Kazakhstan for Astana peace process as well as his visit to Turkey to ensure stability in Syria.

He also highlighted that resolving the tensions in the region is solely up to regional countries alone.

“Some are seeking to sow instability in the region and unfortunately Yemen is under the toughest attacks,” he said, stressing that Iran is ready to cooperate with the United Nations and countries seeking peace and stability in Yemen and the region.

“We see no sign of US’ honesty and accordingly there is no chance for a meeting between Rouhani and Trump in New York,” government spokesman Ali Rabiei said, “Stopping all sanctions is an indispensable precondition for constructive diplomacy. We hold meetings when we are sure that our people’s problems can be solved”.

“Sanctions must be lifted, and the United States must respect the Iranian nation,” he added.
