Students and faculty members of Tehran University rallied on Saturday in a display of solidarity with the burgeoning protests unfolding across various campuses in the United States. These protests have emerged as American students have erected encampments, demanding decisive action to bring an end to Israel’s ongoing conflict with Gaza.
During the rally, participants passionately chanted slogans such as “death to America,” “death to Israel,” and “death to England,” voicing their condemnation of the violent crackdowns perpetrated by U.S. law enforcement against protesting students. The rally symbolized a collective stance in support of the awakening consciousness within the academic circles of America and Europe.
This awakening seeks to denounce the brutal violence inflicted upon the oppressed Palestinian populace by the illegitimate Israeli regime. Moreover, it condemns America’s unwavering support for a regime implicated in the killing of innocent children. The wave of student protests in the U.S., ignited by the Israeli offensive on Gaza, has gained momentum in recent days. The escalation followed the initial arrests of students at Columbia University, sparking a cascade of demonstrations across various campuses.
In solidarity with Gaza, encampments advocating for the Palestinian cause have sprouted up at renowned institutions such as Yale University and New York University. Consequently, law enforcement agencies have intervened, deploying police forces to quell the demonstrations, resulting in the arrest of hundreds of protesting students.
Despite the predominantly peaceful nature of these protests, the authorities in the United States have responded with disproportionate force. Reports indicate that hundreds of police officers, including some on horseback, have forcefully dispersed crowds, brandishing batons and making numerous arrests.
