Iran rejects Western-backed UN mandates as ‘human rights weaponization’ for political gain
Iran has formally rejected a resolution adopted in the 39th Special Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on Saturday, denouncing the move as a “blatantly politicized action.”
Ali Bahreini, Tehran’s Permanent Mission in Geneva, issued a sharp rebuke, stating the session and its mandates are “entirely lacking any sincere concern for human rights” and serve as a tool for the interventionist agendas of Western powers.
Bahreini described the session as an “illegal” act of “covert aggression” aimed at producing “distorted narratives and false accusations.” A powerful coalition representing over half the global population—including China, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Cuba, Vietnam, and Iraq—opposed the measure, citing the selective behavior of the council.
While Tehran maintains its citizens have the constitutional right to peaceful assembly, officials note that recent unrest was systematically hijacked by provocateurs and terrorists backed by the U.S. and Israel, leading to the death of over 3000.
