Iran’s Iron Ore Concentrate Output Grows 3% in Nine Months

EghtesadOnline: A total of 35.43 million tons of iron ore concentrate were produced in Iran during the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 21-Dec. 21) to register a 3% growth compared with the corresponding period of the year before.

Production in the ninth month stood at 3.89 million tons, up 1% year-on-year, latest data released by the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization show.

Golgohar Mining and Industrial Complex accounted for 12.11 million tons of the total output (up 2% YOY), followed by Chadormalu Mining and Industrial Complex with 7.07 million tons (up 5% YOY), Middle East Mines and Mining Industries Development Holding Company with 3.98 million tons (up 3% YOY), Iran Central Iron Ore Company with 3.6 million tons (down 10% YOY), Goharzamin Iron Ore Company with 3.41 million tons (up 4% YOY), Opal Parsian Sangan with 2.27 million tons (up 4% YOY), National Development Industrial and Mineral Company with 1.77 million tons (up 65% YOY), Sabanour Mining and Industrial Development Company with 812,866 tons (down 10% YOY) and Jalalabad Iron Ore Complex with 367,677 tons (down 3% YOY), Financial Tribune reported.

Another report published by IMIDRO recently on development of under-construction iron ore concentrate production units indicates that a total of 23.15 million tons/year are expected to be added to Iran’s iron ore concentrate production capacity by the time the development of all these units is complete in the fiscal 2023-24.

The report, which elaborates on the units and their physical progress as of Nov. 21, 2019, shows “Payset Mine Safir” project located in Sangan District in Khaf County of Khorasan Razavi Province will have a production capacity of 0.55 million tons/year upon completion. The development of the unit has made 95% progress and is expected to become operational by the end of the current Iranian year (March 19, 2020).

Next is “Ehya Sepahan Khaf Steel Complex Company” located in Khorasan Razavi Province with a production capacity of 0.8 million tons/year. The unit has progressed by 94% and is also expected to come on stream by the end of the current fiscal year.

“Jahan Nemove Company”, located in Zanjan, the capital of Zanjan Province, will have a capacity of 0.35 million tons/year once it becomes operational and is currently 85% complete. Similar to the abovementioned units, it is also expected to be launched by March 2020.

“Amir Sangan Parsian” in Khaf County of Khorasan Razavi Province will have a capacity of 0.55 million tons/year upon completion. It has made 95% physical progress and is expected to be inaugurated by the current fiscal yearend.

Also located in Khaf County of Khorasan Razavi Province, “Sangan Steel Mining Industries Company” will have a production capacity of 5 million tons/year. The unit’s development progress is at 86% and it is expected to become operational by the end of the next Iranian year (March 2021).

“Kaveh Pars Steel Company”, also located in Khaf, will become operational in the fiscal 2021-22. It will have a capacity of 2.5 million tons/year and has made 50% progress.

“Pasargad Steel Complex” has made 70% progress and will have 2.5 million tons/year capacity. Located in Shiraz, capital of Fars Province, the project is expected to be launched next year.

The second phase of “Gohar Zamin Iron Ore”, located in Sirjan, Kerman Province, has made a 16% physical progress. It will have 2 million tons/year capacity and will come on stream in the fiscal 2022-23.

Also coming on stream during the fiscal 2022-23, “Sharq Mineral Supply and Production Company”, located in Khaf, has made 21% progress and will have a capacity of 2.5 million tons upon completion.

The development project of “Opal Parsian Sangan” in Khaf will have a production capacity of 2.4 million tons/year. It has made 8% progress and will be inaugurated in the fiscal 2023-24, during which the third phase of “Gohar Zamin Iron Ore” unit located in Baft, Kerman Province, will also be complete. This project has made 5% progress and will have a production capacity of 4 million tons/year.
